I have been away from my blog for awhile mainly because I did not think I was getting any hits on it. However, even if no one read my blog, it is going to become my practice to write every week.
I have been reading poetry--yes guys read poetry--and this excerpt is taken from "The Essential Rumi" from a poem that I like very much called SOMEONE DIGGING IN THE GROUND. Here are a few of the lines that really speak to me.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some mementary awareness comes
as an unexpected vistor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house
empty of its furntiture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
I have come to love Rumi's writing and poetry. He speaks with such honesty and openness. He is not afraid of showing his emotions of fear, anger, love, beauty, depression. I also like Rumi's writing because he can take something so simple and make it sound beautiful and respectful. "Treat each guest honorably" he says. Often, we are so quick to want to get rid of negative emotions, but Rumi believes we should be present with them and even entertain them.
Sometimes the world can seem cold and hard, but there is still beauty around us and inside of us. We may feel beat down, we may want to give up, we may feel like we have nothing to offer, but we all have a divine spark inside of us. We must fan that flame and build each other up. We are all diamonds in the rough waiting to break through.
Life is hard, but we are warriors. A diamond is the hardest mineral. We are all diamonds, and we will not go easily.
I have been away, but I will return.
Peace
