What part of ourselves do we try to hide?

Many of us try to hide parts of ourselves that we may not like from the world. Parts that we may have disowned, parts that we feel are unflatering, and even parts that we see in others that are reflected in ourselves.

When I was a child, I had a major operation. I had to have over 90 stitches. My surgery was a sucess, but my scar was partly visible. I hated having it seen. I was teased and bullied about it.

My mother used to say, "You should be proud of your stitches because you survived, but I just wanted to hide.

I hated being different. I have learned that you cannot hide in life. You must take the risk and put yourself out there even if it does mean being different. If every morning was the same there would not be beautiful sunrises like this one that I happened upon on a rainy morning.

Alan Clements, the first American monk said, "Victory is assured to those who are capable of learning the hardest lessons." Another of my favorite and inspiring writers is Chinese author and philosopher Yutang who says, "Only those who are there absolute selves in the world can fulfill their own nature.

So even though the scars we have may leave painful and unpleasant memories, it should give us more courage to be true to ourselves. We need people in the world who are real and authentic. Come out from behind your scars and hurts and show your beauty and grace to the world.

Peace!
