Wisdom

I remember when I was a child, my brother, my friend, and I spent the summer under and apple tree. We thought we were going to build an airplane. We had hammers and crooked old nails that we found and collected, and we worked on a project. Back in the 1960s, we had black and white television, and we got three stations on television. So during the spring and summer, we spent our time working, at least this one particular summer, on building an airplane. My brother and I developed a real relationship that year. We also bonded with our friend. It was not easy being a child in the 1960s, and I don't imagine it is now. But, I would guess that like my parents most parents do the best for their children. The point that I want to make is, we did not need game boys, or ipods, or laptops to make us happy. I rode my bike for hours around the same block. When I got old enjoy to drive a car, my parents helped me get a car. But they did not turn me loose with the car. I think wisdom is about allowing yourself the freedom to play as a child and as an adult. A child and an adult can play just as well with a stick as a laptop. Sometimes less is better. Less can make us better people. It can teach us to look for the mysterious in life. It can help us slow down and spend time with family and loved ones. It can gives us the temperment not to hold grudges because life is just too short. Wisdom is not some secrete recipe that only certain people get. Wisdom comes to us when we spend to being mindful, loving, and in relationship with others and nature. No one ever achieves perfect wisdom, so stop trying. You are going to mistakes and so am I. It's called life. But we go back and beg the universe for it's grace and we try again. If we fair again, we try again, The more times we fail, actually the more wisdom we have gained. Wisdom is also about taking some chances. Call that friend you haven't spoken to for months. Go out and buy yourself a toy. Sing a song when at the laundry matt. Notice people's reactions. That is wisdom.
