Celebration

At the church that I go to, the minister talks about how life is to be enjoyed. We sing, dance, and praise God because God's beauty is around us all of the time. This morning I took a very long walk, and I found myself staring at a tree leaf for 20 minutes. I tried to note every detail of that leaf, but every time I look up from taking notes, I noticed that I missed a indentation, or a subtle shade. We miss so many things in life that are right in front of our faces.
We walk by the elderly because we realize that someday we are going to look that way someday. The truth is, there is great wisdom in the elderly. The other day on PBS, I watched a show called 90 years old and loving it. There was a man who was 94 years young who still drives a cab in New York City. There was a woman in her 90s who had written two books.
Today I got to see my cousins who renewed their wedding vows. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and they had the courage to get up in front of 200 people and state that they still love each other.
I will not allow age to become a barrier for me. I will break through negative stereotypes and biases, and live life by my own design. We each have to decide how much we are willing to tolerate and where we will draw the line. We were put on this earth to live fully. Stretch out your arms to the Lord and give thanks every day you wake up.
Walk firmly but love.
Peace
